Job Title: Senior Technical Writer
Reports To: VP, Consulting Services
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary
Develops, writes, and edits computer-related technical and administrative documentation and publications by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
Researches, develops, and writes content for printed manuals, documentation, and supporting materials for software, hardware, technical procedures, and computer-related services.

Writes, organizes, enters, and compiles online help files to support end users.

Prepares and maintains documentation and publications relating to users, systems, programming, operations, products, and services.

Gathers and researches technical information, including engineering and development information, for use in documentation activities.

Interviews programmers, engineers, developers, and other technical personnel to become familiar with product technology and development methods.

Maintains understanding of applications and levels of user proficiency.

Prepares written documents following standard guideline for technical publications.

Coordinates layout and organization of documentation.

Reviews and revises previously created documentation.

Creates graphical images, flow charts, and diagrams for inclusion in documentation.

Coordinates with graphics and printing production personnel or vendors to produce documentation.

Reviews, edits, and proofreads materials written by others.

Reviews and tests software and hardware for accuracy and consistency with documentation, identifying problems and suggesting revisions.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of FrameMaker, MS Word Processing software.
